FREE PATTERN

looks like a sea creature sea slug - i think! the finished scarf

# the scarf kind of lays flat around the neck when worn.
The short row ruffle scarf

Materials:

-3-4 balls Lions brand Microspun 168 yds/2.5oz

-us size 8 knitting needles

Guage: 4.5 sts/inch in garter st., but it's a scarf so gauge should not matter

Cast on 34 sts, knit 2 rows. Start short rows as:

row 1. Slip 1 st, knit 11 sts, turn ( leave remaining sts on the left hand needle.

row 2. Sl 1, K11

row 3. sl 1, K10, turn

row 4. sl1, K10

row 5. sl 1, K9, turn

row 6 & all remaining even rows, sl 1, knit to end of row.

row 7. sl 1, K8, turn

row 9. sl 1, K7, turn

row 11. sl 1, K6, turn

row 13. sl 1, K5, turn

row 15. sl 1, K4, turn

row 17. sl 1, k3, turn

row 19. sl 1, K2, turn

row 20, sl 1, K2

at this point you will knit the sts up again;

row 21. sl 1, k3, turn

row 23. sl 1, k4, turn

row 25. sl 1, k5, turn

row 27. sl 1, k6, turn

row 29. sl 1, k7, turn

row 31. sl 1, k8, turn

row 33. sl 1, k9, turn

row 35. sl 1, k10, turn

row 37. sl 1, knit to the end of the row. This puts you on the other edge. Repeat the short rows from row 1-35. 2 short ruffles done!

knit 3-5 ridges - 1 ridge equals 2 rows of knitting.

Knit to desired length ending with 3 ridges.

NOTES:

1. I slipped the sts on the odd rows as if to knit & the even rows as to purl with the yarn at the back.

2. sl 1- slip 1 st

K- knit

3. you don't need to wrap the slip sts.

4. I placed a small pocket at one end of the scarf- optional

5. ruffle can be used for other things.

For some reason mine is really ruffly. I am using a 10 size needle. So I guess that's why right?

it could be, but if it's too ruffly maybe space them out meaning knit maybe 4-6 plain garter sts in between the short rows. hope this helps.

I think I get it. When I knit 2 rows after finishing the 35 rows of pattern it really helps. Thanks.
