Diagonal lace hat

materials: 2  16-inch circular needles size 3.75 mm or any needle to get a gauge 4sts=1 inch.
Red heart yarn "With Love" color Pewter.
* the second circ ndl is used when decreasing for the top.*
Gauge: 4 sts= 1 inch
 CO 88 sts ( 100 sts) PLACE a Ring Marker
* I used the german twisted CO for a firm & stretchy caston edge*
Knit 2 , Purl 2  ribbing for 2 to 3 inches.
Next round: knit 1 round plain - increase by 2 sts = 90 sts ( decrease by 1 sts = 99 sts)
Work Diagonal lace pattern until 6 to 7 inches from the cast on edge.
Diagonal lace pattern:
Round 1. * knit 1, Yarn Over, Knit 1, Yarn over, SSK, knit 3, Knit 2 Together*
Round 2. Knit around.
Round 3. * Knit 1, YO, Knit 3, YO, SSK, Knit 1, K2Tog*
Round 4. Knit around.
 After working the fourth round decrease for the top.
Round1. * K 7, K2tog* - 80 sts ( 88sts)
Round 2. Knit
Round 3. * K 6, K2 tog*  - 70sts ( 77 )
Round 4. Knit
Round 5. * Knit 5, K2 tog*. - 60 ( 66)
Round 6. Knit
Round 7 * Knit 4, K2 tog*. - 50 ( 55)
Round 8. * knit 3, K2 tog*. - 40 ( 44)
Round 9. * K 2, K2 tog *.  - 30 ( 33)
Round 10. * Knit 1, K2 tog*.  - 20 ( 22)
Round 11. * Knit 2 together*  - 10 sts ( 11sts) remain
